The first 2 days of CA was ok so far. Not as bad as I expected. Besides being away from Siok Kuan (puke, punch, lol) I was satistfied with everything. Well, almost..
I was attached to the surgical ward. It sounded good. But it wasnt good when I reahed there. The place seemed so familiar. After squeezing out my brain cells, I realise the ward I am in is exactly where RUdy was warded last time for his clever antics. Omg..is this just a coincidence, or should I give Mediacorp a call and ask them to produce my story in The Incredible Tales? Creepy.
The CF (or CI, whatever) was such a sweet lady. Until I realise it just now. She was damn strict with us and expected us to be so proficient with the skills. She kept calling us "dun blur lah" like a true blue Singaporean(she's from China btw). I hope Ill find a way with her, and her thick accent, cuz Im gonna be with her for the next few weeks.
My first application in the cubicle was to check the patient's parameters. It was a breeze, cuz there's one ITE student also attached with me and another girl, Leonice, to help out with the things. And he's so so good. All the patients love him. Which is gonna be so different when he leaves this Thursday, cuz Im so clumsy Im gonna make the patients have cardiac arrest. Sad.
While we were doing parameters, he asked me to change this weak uncle's diapers. UGH. But what to do. I don my gloves and he did most of the asswiping. :/ It was gross. The faeces was a cross between a beef rendang and Siok Kuan's stirred-like-crazy KFC mashed potato. And whats worse, there was blood oozing from the shathole. Yes, the blood mixed with the rendang textured substance to give an explosion of smell worse than the diabetic foot rot. BUt I survived.Maybe cuz I really pity the patient. He was such in a painful state. He was moaning all the time.
There were tubes inside and outside him, like the nasogastric tube and (drum roll pls) the catheterisation tube. When I removed the diapers and he exposed his ding dongs aka cuckoo aka tweet tweet, I saw the catheter tube running into the urethra. And the tube was huge!! How could it possibly fit in to a small orifice like the urethra without causing hurt? I could feel the agony as I visualise myself inserting that thing. AWWW.. My heart bled each time I accidentally moved or pulled the tube that was attached to the bag while changing his diapers. I told you im clumsy.Soon after the doctors were notified about the bloody stools, he was sent to the ICU. Which makes his case more sad. But I shandnt dwell on it..I will survive.
Quite interesting morning, except when afternoon comes, cuz we had nothing to do, and the polyclinic experience came to mind. And as usual, our "teacher" released us late like yesterday.
Im sooo gonna get used to this.
