Supposedly starting night shift next month, I was haul into doing it prematurely because of the high MC rate. I was glad actually, getting my off today with yesterday being sleeping day, compared to the initial plan of having my off last Wed and the next one is next Sunday, which meant I had to work 9 days straight. 2 nights was a killer. Since it was my first night I was given the AN job. sponging after sponging were done and all done only at 3 AM.Imagine sponging for 5 hours to 5 intubated patients. After that went for break and then sat at the telemetry machine the next half of the night.
Which was even worse, because by that time my eyes were halfway shut from the lack of sleep and the time ticked so slowly when you sit down on the chair and stare at the monitors till 7 Am. To make things worse, I had to call the GW if anything went wrong with the ECG of the patients. So it will be like a zombie talking to another zombie. Thank god its only 2 nights a cycle. Or else..or else ..i dunno, i cant do shit im bonded dammit.
Another hard part is when ure in charge of patients who are very ill, cuz their hearts may just give way, which is so common here, and thats scary. at least in GW the chances of that isnt too high, so in this apect, i wonder how Iwill survive in ICU.
Thats all for night shifts.
